Abraham Lincoln

Lived 1809 - 1865.  As everyone probably knows.  Abraham Lincoln was one of the great presidents.  Lincoln led and fought in the Civil War to abolish slavery.  His side (The North) won, but at the cost of many lives.  By the end of the the war, 750,000 people died. Even though slavery was abolished, African Americans still weren't treated all that equal to other people.
